Green car insurance becoming popular

Fri, 21 Sep 2007

Green car insurance is becoming increasingly popular with environmentally concerned motorists, one expert in the car insurance industry has said.

Duncan Bowker of Co-operative Insurance (CIS) has stated that consumers are generally more concerned with the environment .

"More and more consumers now switching on to green forms of consumerism and I think financial services is one of those areas," he remarked.

Mr Bowker commented that the Co-operative Insurance eco-car insurance policy has seen a positive response since its launch.

He added that customers are keen to pick up such a product after they have been educated on the subject.

Furthermore, greener vehicles receive a discount on their car insurance premium.

However, according to Mr Bowker green car insurance is still "a niche" area.

Recently, ibuyeco announced it had offset 18,000 tonnes of CO2 since the launch of its eco-car insurance product in June.

Marketing manager at ibuyeco Lucy Bailey said that there is consumer demand for the service and that the premiums the company offers are competitive.
