Motorists are risking their no-claims discount by not protecting it, which could result in hikes in their car insurance of they have an accident, it has been suggested.
Research from uSwitch.com shows 7.7 million drivers could protect their four years no-claims by paying an average of £2.56 per month.
However, if a driver has not protected their discount, they could see their car insurance premiums rise by £92 per year if they have an accident.
Insurance expert uSwitch.com Ashton Berkhauer commented that drivers need to look at protecting their no-claims discount when choosing their car insurance policies .
"Nearly three-quarters (72 per cent) of motorists say they choose their car insurance policy purely based on price, but, with such variation across the industry when it comes to protecting NCD's [no claims discount], this could be a false economy," he said.
According to the price comparison website, drivers can see as much as 55 per cent knocked off their car insurance premiums if they have four years of no-claims.
It was reported yesterday by the Daily Mail that an increasing number of foreign nationals are drink-driving and becoming involved in more fatal road traffic accidents .
