Drivers could be risking invalidating their car insurance policies by not owning up to motor convictions or speeding offences, new research has found.

According to Confused.com, as many as one in four motorists are keeping important details from the car insurance company .

A further 96 per cent of people know that by hiding details from an insurer could invalidate their car insurance claim .

Confused.com managing director Debra Williams comments that it is imperative that drivers update the details on their car insurance policy as soon as they change.

Even if it is a change of job title or a different annual mileage, insurers could refuse to pay up on a car insurance policy if the details are incorrect, she warns.

"Don’t risk waiting until your policy is up for renewal, as if you need to make a claim and a previous incident has not been reported, you could find that your policy isn’t worth the paper it’s written," she remarks.

Recently an expert from Modified Ride warned that car owners who modify their vehicle may find it difficult to obtain car insurance .
