Young drivers need additional education in order to make sure that they are safe on the roads once they obtain their licences, one car insurance company has claimed.
Car insurance provider esure cited research from driving charity Brake, which indicates that six in ten young motorists have admitted to driving above the speed limit.
Such activities are likely to endanger their car insurance policies, as they will incur penalty points on their licences if they are caught by police officers travelling above the speed limit for a given stretch of road.
And the car insurance company claims that it is the attitude, rather than the skills base of such drivers that are leading to danger on the roads.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting for esure, called upon the government to react to this threat and take action.
"Only by dramatically improving the education initiatives targeting this group will we be successful in changing the attitudes of young people and fostering a culture of responsible driving," he remarked.
Elsewhere Gocompare.com warned drivers of the implications that expensive modifications could have to a car insurance policy .
