Changes to car insurance rules could see many unwary Brits caught out, one major company has warned.
According to AA, a provider of car insurance services, new regulations are being brought into force in the New Year as the industry aims to fight back against uninsured drivers.
However, honest motorists could fall foul of this alteration when they come to renew their car insurance policies, as they now have just seven days to register with the Motor Insurance Database, the firm asserted.
This could see them stopped by police officers who would suspect them of driving without car insurance, even if they have cover in place, it noted.
John Close, insurer relations director at AA Insurance, commented: "If a checked vehicle is not on the database the equipment alerts police who can then stop it. If the driver can't prove that he or she is covered, the car could be confiscated."
He added that drivers must not delay when it comes to renewing their car insurance policies .
AA offers a number of insurance deals aside from car insurance, including policies for vans and caravans .
