Millions of British drivers regularly lose their car keys, one car insurance firm has claimed.
According to LV=, which was formerly known as Liverpool Victoria, 16 per cent of the country's drivers have lost their vehicle keys permanently at some point in the past - something that could have car insurance implications if the car is stolen.
The financial services firm's figures reveal that three million Britons - or ten per cent of the respondents - do not have a spare pair of keys, causing a collective £98 million bill in the event of loss.
Drivers could pay as much as £326 to replace a set of car keys due to the complex process that goes into the design and programming of modern vehicle keys, the car insurance company said.
Martin Milliner at Britannia Rescue commented: "The cost of getting back behind the wheel could really rocket if work is needed on the ignition or security system as well, but one clear way of avoiding this issue is to look after your spare key and keep it in a sensible place."
Gocompare.com recently warned that making modifications to a car may have car insurance implications.
