No car insurance vehicles seized and crushed

Fresh figures from the Association of British Insurers indicate that as many as 20,000 extra vehicles have been seized by police this year because of their lack of car insurance.

The new statistics display that as many as 100,000 vehicles have been confiscated by law enforcement authorities for having no insurance, many of them in roadside checks. The figure compares with 78,000 from last year. Some 45,000 vehicles have been crushed.

The Director of General Insurance and Health at the Association of British Insurers, called uninsured drivers a menace to UK roads. He reportedly commented: "These figures show that the determination of the insurance industry and the police to drive them from our roads is beginning to bear fruit."

The risk posed by uninsured motorists apparently also causes honest drivers to face increased premiums .
