Cheap car insurance advice proffered

Car insurance customers have been offered tips on getting a cheaper insurance quote, following the revelation that many motorists may be ignoring the benefits of comparing the market.

According to a survey from car insurance specialists American Express Motor Insurance, 43 per cent of motorists confess to not having shopped around for a cheap car insurance deal.

Consequently, the financial services provider has urged people to try a variety of different brokers for protection, as well as considering options such as increasing voluntary excesses and parking vehicles in a garage to reduce their car insurance premiums.

Moreover, it recommends motorists do everything in their power to protect a no-claims car insurance discount.

"The cost of motoring seems to rise year on year and while there is little motorists can do to cut the cost of fuel or road tax, insurance is one area where real savings can be made," commented Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Motor Insurance.

Last month, road users were put on alert after chancellor Gordon Brown confirmed fuel duty would be rising in his latest Budget.

Mr Brown also announced that road tax for gas guzzlers would increase to nearly £400 by 2008.
