Car insurance company offers tips to bank holiday drivers

Fri, 25 May 2007

A new study has revealed that approximately half of the UK population are planning to travel during the bank holiday weekend.

According to research from car insurance provider esure motor insurance, 49 per cent of people will take to the roads, railways or airports to make the most of the three-day weekend.

However, the motor insurance specialist is warning that delays of more than 45 minutes will be awaiting 5.6 million drivers who take to the roads.

Consequently, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at the car insurance company, has issued a few tips for car insurance customers intending to get away this weekend.

"The worst place to be is stuck in a traffic jam when there's no escape," he said.

"Drivers should check their vehicles before setting off, fill up with fuel and meticulously plan their routes with plenty of contingencies."

As many car insurance customers may already be aware, it is illegal to drive without a minimum of third party car insurance cover.

However, many motorists concerned about breaking down over the bank holiday may wish to consider adding optional breakdown cover to their car insurance package.
