Young drivers could find it increasingly difficult to find a cheap car insurance quote in the future, a car insurance provider has claimed, which could have knock-on implications for all motorists.
Research cited by car insurance company Co-operative Insurance suggests that road users aged between 15 and 25 are involved in 35 road safety incidents daily that lead to death or serious injuries being sustained.
"If this trend continues, many young owners will be unable to afford insurance and that will inevitably lead to a rise in the number of uninsured motorists on the roads and that would have major consequences for us all," warned David Neave, director of general insurance at CIS.
And in an attempt to cut down the number of road safety incidents affecting younger people, the car insurance company has put its weight behind a new education resource pack for school students from road safety organisation Brake.
Entitled Too Young To Die, the packs feature a DVD and take-home information pamphlets targeted specifically at 15 to 21 year old.
Earlier this month, it was reported by financing website uSwitch.com that the highest average car insurance premium in the country could be found in Manchester, with rates here 39 per cent higher than the national average.
