Increase in state pension bikers reported by motorcycle insurance specialist

Fri, 09 Mar 2007

The sight of a pensioner on a motorbike is becoming an increasingly common sight nowadays, according to a motorcycle insurance provider.

Research from motor insurance provider AA Insurance has revealed that one in five female bikers are past the state pension age - many of whom may be in need of motorcycle insurance cover.

The insurance specialist has also reported that the oldest woman motorcyclist in the UK is nearing her 80th birthday.

And it appears that there may be even more demand for motorcycle insurance cover in the future, since the study suggests there was a 36 per cent rise in the number of over-60s of either sex buying a motorbike in 2006.

"We are definitely seeing more silver surfers seeking the freedom of the road on two wheels," confirmed Kate Scammel, head off AA Motorcycle Insurance.

Earlier this week, Ellesmere Port Pioneer reported that Danny Scholes, 57, is planning to enter into the Wirral Club Championship.

The motorbike event will pit Mr Scholes against 40 other riders in a series of classic motorbike races during the course of the season.

Mr Scholes decided to enter after his employer, building firm Rok, agreed to sponsor him and pay the entry fees for the first championship race.
