Car insurance provider Liverpool Victoria has outlined how its customers should go about making an insurance claim if they suspect their vehicle has been damaged by contaminated petrol.
This week, it has emerged that unleaded fuel from some petrol stations is causing a number of vehicle engines to misfire or stall completely, in damage that could cost hundreds of pounds to repair.
And car insurance customers with Liverpool Victoria have been told that they should make a call to the insurance company's claims hotline in the first instance to notify them of the problem.
Then, the driver should produce receipts of their petrol purchase and any subsequent breakdown recovery costs incurred to enable the car insurance company to proceed with the claim.
"If any of our motor policyholders have experienced a mechanical breakdown which is proved to have been caused by contaminated petrol, we will honour their claim under the accidental damage section of their policies," confirmed John O'Roarke, managing director of Liverpool Victoria General Insurance.
In related news, the Trading Standards Institute announced on Wednesday, February 28th 2007 that it had received between 75 and 100 complaints from motorists about the problem.
