Many motorists with third party car insurance cover may be able to cut their insurance premiums by switching to fully comprehensive car insurance protection, it has been claimed.
According to financing research from online price comparison website Insurancewide.com, drivers aged over 35 years old are typically shelling out between £400 and £500 on a fully comprehensive motor insurance package.
By way of comparison, over-35s who have arranged third party car insurance cover are facing premiums of between £500 and £700.
Commenting on the financing discrepancy, Craig Stanilard at online car insurance provider swiftcover.com, pointed out that third party car insurance premiums have been ramped up in recent years because more young drivers and sports car owners are choosing the option.
"This pushes up the average premium for TPFT [third party, fire and theft] because of the added risk to insure the vehicle or driver," he said.
"We would always recommend comparing TPFT [third party, fire and theft] with comprehensive."
As many car insurance customers will already be aware, it is illegal under UK law to drive without a minimum of third party car insurance cover.
