The number of British consumers who want to take out eco-friendly car insurance premiums is growing, according to one expert.
Green car insurance policies have become more popular of late as a direct result of the political sea change that is currently taking place, with environmental issues increasingly at the forefront of the public's mind, said David Douglas of the Environmental Transport Association.
"It's definitely a growth industry and I think it will continue to grow," commented the spokesperson.
"It's growing quickly at the moment but it's only so because it's so high on the agenda."
Additionally, he suggested that consumers are not only becoming more eco-aware, but also more ethically savvy, as they learn which car insurance companies have genuine green credentials and which are applying "greenwash".
Mr Douglas also maintained that the current battle for political supremacy taking place in parliament is helping to keep this issue on the agenda, particularly as the elections draw nearer.
Co-operative Insurance was one of the first UK companies to offer a green car insurance policy, while also installing photovoltaic panels and wind turbines on several of its offices.
