Green car insurance is a motorist's best bet until cleaner and more reliable forms of public transport emerge, it has been claimed.
Currently, many Britons are "forced to use cars" due to inadequate provision for cyclists and a public transport network that is insufficient to meet their needs, with green car insurance helping to undo some of the environmental damage this causes, said a spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association.
David Douglas also explained that his company, which provides green car insurance, also offsets all of the carbon it uses, including petrol for its fleet of breakdown vehicles.
Additionally, he asserted that his organisation's not-for-profit strategy means that green car insurance customers will be getting the best deal available for their needs, while also creating the best environmental provision.
"You're giving money to a company that's ploughing it all back into the planet, rather than a corporation that's serving the shareholders," he remarked.
One of the first companies in the UK to offer green car insurance was the Co-operative Group, which also claims to be one of the most eco-friendly. It recently installed wind turbines on the roof of its Manchester office.
