Police urge motorists to be careful

Wed, 12 Dec 2007

Police are calling on motorists to take care when leaving cars unattended after three vehicles in Clackmannanshire were targeted earlier this month.

The incidents on December 2nd and December 3rd took place in Churchill Street, Alloa, Doo'cot Brae, Alloa and Woodlea Park in Sauchie, and drivers are advised to use common sense when parking and leaving vehicles unattended, particularly overnight and before Christmas .

Constable John Smith of the Local Police Management Unit in Alloa, said: "Valuables should be removed from vehicles when they are left unattended, especially over night. Don't assume it will never happen to you."

According to Constable Smith, drivers should ensure that Christmas does not come early for opportunistic thieves who will take items from unattended cars.

Meanwhile, Central Scotland police have stated that they will be carrying out stringent checks on lorries and vans with officers from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and drivers should ensure that they are aware of both their "responsibilities to themselves and other road users".

Motorists are reminded to ensure that they have sufficient car insurance to cover them in the event that cars are broken into or damaged when left unattended.
