Hull named riskiest place for car theft

Mon, 17 Dec 2007

Hull has been ranked the highest in a list of the worst cities for car crime published by a car insurance company .

Endsleigh Insurance reported that Hull was followed by Nottingham and Leeds in the list, which was based on car insurance claims from the last three years.

Meanwhile, Swindon, Norwich and Dundee were found to be the least risky places to own a car in the UK.

Stuart Wartalski, spokesperson for the firm, said that the research showed that there are some towns and cities in the UK that pose a "greater risk" for motorists .

"Equally, no motorists can afford to be complacent - wherever they might live," he stated.

Car owners should look to hide their valuables and to ensure that they do not leave shopping bags in view over the Christmas period, Mr Wartalski advised.

Moneysupermarket.com recently reported that cars in London and the north-west of England tend to cost the most to insure.

Dundee, Aberdeen and Exeter were found to be the least expensive areas for car insurance .
