Car insurance frauds crushed

Tue, 04 Dec 2007

Not only could they face legal problems and vastly elevated car insurance premiums for life, those drivers who risk driving without insurance may also have their cars crushed. New police technology is making it more than ever to find and punish those that ignore vehicle insurance laws.

News statistics earlier this year released by the Association of British Insurers show that the police are catching up with uninsured vehicles and their drivers, and crushing thousands every year. Automatic number plate recognition technology allows police to monitor uninsured vehicles .

The Director of General Insurance and Health at the ABI, Nick Starling, reportedly commented: "These figures show that the determination of the insurance industry and the police to drive them from our roads is beginning to bear fruit. However we need to ensure that the penalties they face reflect the seriousness of this crime."

Vehicle seizures are expected to soar over Christmas and into 2008.
