Motor insurance customers on alert following warning of dangerous Wednesdays

Thu, 05 Apr 2007

Wednesday afternoon has been pinpointed as the day of the week when a road incident is most likely to occur, motor insurance policyholders may be interested to know.

The 60 minutes between 17:00 and 18:00 BST typically see more crashes in the springtime than any other hour in the week, according to accident management specialists Accident Exchange.

And Wednesdays in general apparently account for more than their fair share of accidents, in news that may surprise many motor insurance customers.

According to its data, 17.8 per cent of all traffic collisions take place midweek.

"Maybe there's an element of mid-week depression," suggested Brian Gregory, chairman of the Association of British Drivers.

"Perhaps thoughts are not on the task of driving but thinking about last weekend or plans for the upcoming one."

In related news, this week saw financing website moneysupermarket.com remind travellers about the importance of breakdown cover.

According to its figures, prices for a comprehensive UK breakdown package start from £31 per year.

Meanwhile, comprehensive breakdown cover can be obtained for £76.50, which could reassure car insurance customers concerned their vehicle may break down overseas.
