Some 17 per cent of UK businesses have been affected by criminal acts to their vans, a business insurance provider has warned.
Of the companies affected, 42 per cent stated that the van had been stolen, with 42 per cent having lost its contents, business insurance provider Zurich claimed.
This could amount to £1 billion worth of stolen tools in the UK, regardless of whether they are covered by business insurance.
Furthermore, more than one in five small businesses do not have insurance cover for the contents of their van.
Zurich warns that more than one in three would not be sufficiently covered for interruption on their business insurance policy if they should be unable to trade due to loss of tools.
David Nichols, Zurich commercial's head of package business commented: "The nation thrives on the work done by small businesses so we need them operating safely and free from crime, but we also need them to get back up and running if they do fall victim."
The Small Business Service recently stated that the number of small to medium-sized enterprises is growing in the UK, which was reported in Bytestart.
