Green car insurance from swiftcover.com

The online insurer swiftcover.com has created a new car insurance policy for drivers of eco-friendly cars.

Vehicles such as the Toyota Prius, Lexus RX, Honda Insight and Lexis GS, which have hybrid engines, will qualify their drivers for a ten per cent car insurance discount.

However, research from the car insurance provider reveals that two-fifths of motorists in the UK would not be willing to reduce their car usage to help the environment.

The study also showed that one-in four drivers would not reduce their usage if motoring costs doubled, while more than half would not consider driving less if petrol were twice as expensive.

Andrew Blowers, chief executive of swiftcover.com, commented: "We are very powerfully attached to our cars and either unable or unwilling to give them up for the sake of our environment.

"We recognise this fact, but also want to help encourage more motorists to consider the eco-friendly cars on the market."
