UK drivers with speeding or other convictions could end up paying too much for their car insurance by failing to shop around, an expert has claimed.
Some motorists may not trust smaller brands or be fully aware of how to search for the best car insurance policy, asserted James Harrison, chief executive of insurancewide.com.
Mr Harrison stated that by shopping around, which is becoming easier due to the accessibility of comparison websites, convicted drivers could find a better deal for their car insurance.
He adds that specialist car insurance providers offer services to particular drivers, such as Quotelinedirect which offers schemes for drivers with speeding convictions.
"Contrary to popular belief, there are several reasonably priced insurers out there who want to insure drivers with points from speed cameras and whose policies are designed especially to cater for this sort of driving history," he said.
"These insurers realise that they are not necessarily a better or worse risk just that it is easier to amass points today than it was in the pre-speed camera days."
A recent study by the AA revealed that the average cost of car insurance premiums is rising in the UK.
