Drivers warned to check their car insurance

Wed, 22 Nov 2006

UK motorists have been urged to check that their car insurance policies as the winter draws closer.

Extra elements of a car insurance policy, such as breakdown cover, could have a major impact in the colder months, insurer Prudential claimed.

Additionally, the car insurance provider advised drivers to take extra care during the period, as potentially dangerous and unpredictable weather may make driving more difficult.

Figures from Prudential reveal that a 13 per cent rise in car insurance claims was recorded in November 2005.

Phil Southgate, media relations manager at Prudential Car Insurance, commented: "Drivers should double check their insurance policies for additional elements such as breakdown cover which could make the difference between being stuck on the side of the road for hours or making it back to the warmth of your home."

Mr Southgate also advised drivers to take extra time for each journey and be "ultra-vigilant" over winter.

Richard Clarke, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank, recently warned that fatigue and alcohol could add to the dangers on the roads over the Christmas period.
