Co-operative car insurance has warned those planning to travel to Germany to watch the World Cup 2006 finals to check that they had adequate car insurance cover in place.
England fans are at risk of accidents in Germany on unfamiliar roads, particularly notable are the infamous German autobahns which do not impose a speed limit on drivers.
The insurance company advises all drivers to arrange the necessary insurance and breakdown cover to cope with any costs incurred from arranging return of cars to the UK. These costs can regularly run into thousands of pounds.
When driving in the EU, motorists will generally need to apply for an extension to their cover. Co-operative offers extended cover at no extra cost to the consumer. David Newman, director of marketing at Co-operative insurance, quipped: "By providing customers with policies offering greater freedom, they can travel whenever they wish, and worry about nothing but the performance of the players on the pitch".
