Speed cameras are driving motorists to despair, claims a car insurance specialist.
UK motorists believe that the £114 million raised from speed cameras is being wasted, according to swiftcover.com, the only 100 per cent online car insurance company in the UK.
The car insurance providers conducted a survey, which also found that seven out of eight motorists believe that speed cameras are not the best way to improve driving.
Furthermore, 95 per cent believe that the money they generate is not going to be used to improve road safety.
Andrew Blowers, chief executive of the car insurance provider, comments: "People are fed up with the imposition of speed cameras on every corner but, more importantly, believe that they are failing to fulfil their key objective of improving road safety."
He adds his belief that drivers with one speeding conviction are "just as safe" as those with none, the swiftcover.com's car insurance policy does not charge extra for drivers with one speeding conviction on their licence.
A number of anti-speed camera groups have established themselves in recent months, including Motorists Against Detection, a group led by the anonymous Captain Gatso.
