UK residents have spent 32 million hours waiting by their car after a breakdown, claims a car insurance expert.
Almost three-quarters of UK motorists have broken down and 61 per cent have been forced to wait for an hour or more by the roadside, states Prudential car insurance.
However, almost one fifth of these motorists were without breakdown insurance, the company claims.
Phil Southgate, media relations manager at Prudential car insurance, comments: "Brits seem to be suffering from apathy behind the wheel.
"Fourteen per cent don’t have breakdown cover because they think it will never happen to them and one in ten (12 per cent) just never get around to buying it."
He adds that the company's research findings show that a majority of UK motorists will not break down and spend a "considerable" amount of time waiting for the recovery vehicle.
Mr Southgate continues that with a Prudential car insurance policy customers will have a recovery provider attending to the vehicle "swiftly".
