A car insurance provider has announced a new and innovative way for drivers to build up a no claims discount.
Direct Line now offers the opportunity for all motorists named on its car insurance policies to get a discount for not claiming from their car insurance, even if the principal policyholder puts in an insurance claim.
This way, when the person named on a car insurance policy takes out their own car insurance, they can transfer their no claims discount to a new car insurance policy.
An estimated 18 million drivers are named on someone else's car insurance policy, says the car insurance provider, adding that they could save up to 70 per cent off their car insurance through this new offering.
The motor spokesperson for the car insurance provider, Emma Holyer, says this is the first time that an insurer recognises named drivers in this way and calls it a "major step forward".
Direct Line's unique offer is available to new and existing car insurance policyholders. For those already named on a Direct Line car insurance policy, the discount can be backdated for up to five years.
