The Post Office has launched an online car insurance checklist which is designed to give guidance to vehicle owners.
Should a car insurance policyholder change jobs or move house, their car insurance could potentially be affected, the Post Office warns.
Car insurance policyholders that retire should let their car insurance provider know of their new status, as they could save money on their car insurance premium.
Because a retired car insurance policyholder would no longer drive to work during peak times, their car insurance premium might be reduced, the Post Office says.
Likewise, a new address might mean new car insurance stipulations. The insurance provider says that if a driver used to park in a garage but now park on the street at their new address, their current car insurance cover might not be adequate.
A person's car insurance provider should be notified of any changes in an insurance policyholder's personal situation, says the Post Office's head of car insurance, Phil Ashkuri.
"It's the best way to avoid running into problems should you be unfortunate to have an accident or need to make a claim," he adds.
Mr Ashkuri says the Post Office is a "responsible" car insurance provider and that it always wants to ensure that its car insurance policyholders are "receiving the level of cover they expect".
