Damage caused by a frozen squirrel tops the list of weirdest car insurance claims received by one insurance company.
Norwich Union revealed that incidents involving animals made for the most bizarre car insurance claims.
The insurance company says that the strangest insurance claim received in 2005 was from a car insurance policyholder that said: "A frozen squirrel fell out of a tree and crashed through the windscreen on to the passenger seat."
Insurance claims for a reindeer that fell on a car's bonnet and a frozen kebab that flew out a car door and hit another vehicle were also contenders for being the strangest car insurance claim.
"We see a lot of strange claims but we were surprised at how many involved animals and food, of all things," comments Sally Leeman of Norwich Union.
She says that the insurance company could hardly warn motorists against the hazards on airborne kebabs or frozen squirrels, but that the results of this insurance list "shows how important it is to be aware of what's going on around you at all times".
