Many car insurance policies will offer sufficient breakdown cover to protect motorists for potential accidents, one expert is advising.
However, not all car insurance policies offer an adequate level of cover - so customers may need to take out additional breakdown protection, warns James Harrison, chief executive of Insurancewide.com.
Additionally, when searching for a breakdown cover to complement a car insurance deal, motorists may find that the cheapest deal will not lie with their current insurer, he states.
"Before you scour the market for a separate breakdown policy, check whether your existing car insurance covers you and to what extent," Mr Harrison remarks.
"Be very clear what you want to be covered for before you start your search - don't blindly make do with the cheapest policy going."
The expert also advises drivers to have a full understanding of what breakdown cover is necessary and consider many issues - such as whether this if for the UK or Europe.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, recently claimed that four in ten motorists face rises in their car insurance policy costs due to price hikes.
