A new car insurance provider has entered the market, and offers car insurance exclusively for female drivers.
Sheilas' Wheels, a division of esure, says that women could save more than £200 a year if they switch to the car insurance provider.
The new car insurance division was launched after it was found that women claim less, are responsible for far fewer driving convictions and are more considerate drivers and road users than men, the company's website claims.
"Prices are not what they should be for women given their proven superiority in terms of safety and responsibility behind the wheel," said Peter Wood, chairperson and marketing director of the car insurance provider.
"This is a market that is growing rapidly and ripe for a major shake-up," he said.
And Richard Mason of price comparison website insuresupermarket.com agrees.
He welcomed the addition of a new car insurance provider to the market, as it increases competition and reduces insurance premiums for drivers.
Typically, women-only insurance providers do not necessarily offer the great value they claim to be, Mr Mason pointed out.
"However, in our research, Sheilas' Wheels has proved to be nearly £100 cheaper than Diamond and Girlmotor.com, and topped the table in one of the comparative scenarios we ran," he said.
