Motorists should take precautions to prepare for one of the coldest winters in ten years, a car insurance company has warned.
Tesco Insurance said that British drivers should not only prepare their vehicles for low temperatures, but also ensure their car insurance includes cover for breakdowns.
The car insurance company believes that during Christmas weekend, more than 10,000 cars will need to be rescued after breaking down.
Four levels of car insurance are available from the car insurance company. Motorists can buy an Instant Breakdown pack from Tesco stores and petrol stations.
The breakdown insurance offers instant insurance cover to drivers from £33.
To minimise the risk of breaking down, motorists are being advised to check their car's battery, tyres and lights before setting off on festive journeys.
Keeping a scraper, de-icer, warm coat and gloves in the car might also come in handy when driving in the winter, the car insurance company advises.
Tesco Insurance offers breakdown insurance cover off-the-shelf in over 450 stores across the country or via the telephone.
