Car insurance provider keeps motorists in tune

Car insurance provider Privilege Insurance has listed the five best tips for car owners to ensure their safety when driving.

Listening to music while driving reduces stress that might lead to accidents, the car insurance provider found in a survey.

Privilege Insurance said the best music drivers could listen to in order to relax are "mid-paced" music. Lyrics should not be "excessively aggressive", so motorists would remain calm in the midst of stressful situations on the road.

Nostalgic music further enhances a positive frame of mind, the car insurance provider said.

Singing along to music while driving is something half of all motorists do, the survey found. Privilege Insurance believes this is a good thing, as it not only makes the driver feel more positive, it also increases alertness.

The "safest" tune to enjoy while driving was named as "Disco 2000" by Pulp. The car insurance provider warned drivers to steer clear of "Firestarter" by Prodigy if they wanted to remain calm and safe while driving.

According to Privilege Insurance's managing director Ian Parker the study highlights the fact that listening to music could have both positive and negative effects on driving behaviour.

"We urge motorists to follow our expert tips to ensure they create as safe a driving environment as possible," he said.
