Insuring your car in Scotland is very similar to in England & Wales, the main difference being the titles of the people who deal with this procedure. For instance, there is no procurator fiscal in England & Wales. In Scotland, every driver must have the same minimum insurance requirements as in England & Wales.

A series of national surveys was carried out by the Scottish Crime Survey in 1981, 1987, 1993, 1996, and 2000. Car crime rates started to drop in Scotland from 1987 onwards.
