Car Insurance in Scotland

Insuring your car in Scotland is very similar to in England & Wales, the main difference being the titles of the people who deal with this procedure. For instance, there is no procurator fiscal in England & Wales. In Scotland, every driver must have the same minimum insurance requirements as in England & Wales.

Car insurance costs have come down over the past 5 years, mainly due the decrease of 30% in car crime in Scotland. Car crime is one of the main reasons for insurance premiums being so high south of the border.



A series of national surveys was carried out by the Scottish Crime Survey in 1981, 1987, 1993, 1996, and 2000. Car crime rates started to drop in Scotland from 1987 onwards.
